Online learning

Story by Server Management Labs, 01-06-2009, 0 comment

Using computer-based learning seems the obvious way for IT professionals to acquire the skills needed to master the latest technology.

This is particularly the case when it comes to training staff who already have a busy schedule and are needed on site to handle day-to-day crises. It enables them to undertake skill development and prepare for certification exams without have to block out complete days or weeks for the purpose and it can be done anywhere with an internet connection - enabling it to take place at home in the evenings as well as in the workplace during any available "slack" time in the day.

There is also an obvious cost saving - a fortnight's instructor-led training could be more than £5000 before any incidental expenses such as travel and accommodation. On-site training or mentoring might work out cheaper per trainee but is uneconomical unless you have several students requiring the same courses at the same time.

This week's labs looks at offerings from two online training companies, C.B. Learning and SEEK Learning.
